It’s called: “Make the Leap to Home Business Success

If you are going to build a successful home business, you need 3 “intangibles.” These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

===> Intangible 1 <===

First, you must have a strong WHY.

Why must you make a home business work? What’s driving you? What is it that you CAN’T have in your life anymore and/or what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?

For me, I couldn’t stand working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control my life and finances through a little box that I could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone’s time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick. I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children’s lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in this business would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

You must BELIEVE that it is possible.

If you don’t believe that it’s POSSIBLE for you to succeed in a home business or make your living on the Internet, you won’t. It’s that simple.

For me, figuring out that it was possible was just a matter of realizing that many other people were ALREADY making great money with a home business online. If they could do it, I could too. It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.

There is no shortage of undeniable PROOF that people (millions of them) are making money online in many different ways. Just get online and do some research and you’ll find countless testimonials and stories of REAL PEOPLE making real money on the Internet. Or head to your local bookstore and you’ll find the same documented evidence of this fact. Truth is, it’s getting easier and easier to start and succeed in a home based business. This is primarily because of the Internet and affiliate marketing.

I’ve always said that “affiliate marketing” is the job of the future. In the “old” days, you had to go to a potential employer, apply for the position and hope for the best. Now you can simply go to any company you want, fill out their affiliate application and start work immediately. Affiliates are the new working class. Believe me, making money with affiliate programs or making your living on the Internet is WAY MORE than possible. It is pretty much (or will be soon enough) unavoidable now. Affiliate marketing is the “job” of the future that’s here TODAY.

You must be willing to MAKE THE LEAP.

Ready, FIRE, then aim… This is the operating philosophy you MUST adopt to succeed with an Internet home business.

That’s backwards for most people who like to aim before they fire. The fact is the Internet is a moving target… The only thing constant about it is change. You need to stop analyzing the game and simply jump into it. You can’t learn from the outside… You have to be IN THE RING to truly understand it.

The lesson here is that you will never really be READY to start a home based business. You simply have to start one. This is what I call “Making the Leap.”

The good news is that the cost of failure on the Internet is very small. In the “brick and mortar” world you need to evaluate things very carefully before you decide to open up a business. It’s almost always necessary to invest thousands of dollars to get an offline business off the ground. However, on the Internet you can often start a successful business for less than $100. You simply need get IN THE GAME… Each moment that you stay “out there,” you’re wasting valuable time that you could be learning and skills necessary to become a successful affiliate marketer. Starting an Online Business – Do You Live to Work or Work to Live?

To be honest when starting any business it would help if you are among the ‘Live to Work’ group. You really have to more or less enjoy working to want what is possibly a second job. In any case you will likely be spending a lot of time just getting started and obviously you will need to devote as much quality time as possible to your online business.

From the perspective of having a way to survive while building a business, it is best to start developing your plan for a home business while you still have an income from another source. This is because it takes time to start-up a business; Time to learn, to implement, and to develop a business (maintenance).

It is ok of course if you consider yourself in the ‘Work to Live’ group, as long as you understand that you will need to work at starting your own business, and maybe work harder at it since there are some things about your job career that you may take for granted.

This is the structure. It is already there with a job. They have the office, the equipment, the procedures and processes and the customers — and all you need to do is learn how to use everything and then just do it. You know what time you are expected to be there and what time you can go on breaks and when you can leave for the day. You know how much money you will make and when you will be paid.

When you are in business for yourself none of the above is a given. You have to set it all up. Possibly the most difficult part is in staying motivated since you don’t have a boss to be accountable to. You are it. So if you feel like putting something off, or not doing something at all, you have nobody to answer to. Easy to procrastinate and slack off. Oh sure, I’ll do that never.

On using money as the main motivation to work, again with a job it is sure – you know how much you will make and by when. With your own business you may be working for some time before you see the money and you can’t really say for sure when you will see any. This is natural if you feel disoriented with regard to this, however you may have a psychological problem with it because there is a ‘fine line’ there. The purpose of a business is to make money. If you do not see any, well, you say, what is the point?

You are not likely to make much money at first until you get everything rolling, in particular your marketing and advertising to attract customers. Even then you have to give it more time and in this regard you need to continually build momentum by keeping the volume of your advertising and marketing to the maximum. You should never ‘rest on your laurels’.

This is because not everybody who sees your ads will respond – in fact the majority will not respond. So you have to ‘find the needle in the haystack’ and plow through to find the people who are interested and will take action. Further to this even when you start getting traffic that will not only respond but actually convert to sales, you still need to constantly be finding new business – so again it is about the momentum. You can never stop unless you don’t mind your business drying up.

If you are starting an online business, get ready to do some work. Look at making money as a hobby and try to have fun getting to the prize. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”, so don’t expect instant results, miracles, magic or osmosis. It’a all about just plain old w-o-r-k that will get you wealthy (unless you expect to inherit money or win the lottery)!

Starting an Online Business – Be Prepared and Flexible

Being prepared is a good reason to even consider starting an online business. Being prepared for the unexpected financial crisis of any kind – whether it is the sudden loss of your primary source of income, or an insurance deductible or other disaster, it is always best to have some money saved. While credit of course is ‘nice’ you can get in serious trouble for over-extending yourself and it may take years to climb out; Therefore, cash is best.

Being flexible is about keeping an open mind when you are starting your business, in every regard — from what your business will do, to what resources you will use. This is because much will be done through ‘trial and error’ and even just analysis when something may be either doing better than you expected or not as well. You want to remain flexible so that you have the ability to change more or less on the fly.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t give things a fair chance before you pronounce judgement either way. There is nothing instant about earning a steady income. You do hear tales about somebody making a ‘killing’ in a few weeks but this is the exception, not the rule.

The rule is usually that you have to ‘pay your dues’ – expend the time and effort required to build and develop your business; and to thereby sustain momentum in your advertising and marketing. From that will come traffic, and from the traffic will come conversions to sales, eventually. Visualize a shopping mall with hundreds of people mulling about and realize that only a handful of those people will actually transact business the same day. Hello, this is reality.

This is another area where being prepared becomes highly relevant. You need to be prepared for much of the time in the beginning where you will be working and even spending money on your business and nothing is coming back in (yet). So obviously you want to have some operating expense money saved up or at least available.

Another good way to ensure that you have money coming in even when something is lagging behind, is to have multiple streams of income. If your online business is affiliate marketing then having more than one affiliate program will help toward that end. If your business is service related, then having multiple, different kinds of services will help maintain a steady stream of income. Find out what folks need and provide it for them.

Again, don’t take the attitude that you can use credit and will have the return on your investment before the bill is due. NOT for sure. This is speculation that can get you in deep debt and even harm your credit rating when you can’t make a payment on time. Just don’t do it, period. Even that the sun will come up tomorrow is not promised, so do not speculate with your money.
